Why do women add weight during pregnancy and after childbirth?
Statistics have shown that 90% of African Women tend to add on weight during pregnancy. Even the tiniest and slimmest of us tend to pack on the weight during and after the first baby. For some, the weight gain may happen in their later pregnancies.
Women do not have a healthy workout schedule during pregnancy. A lot of women become inactive during and after pregnancy. It is somehow believed that there should be no form of exercise done during this period which is not true. Add walking in their neighborhood to your routine during pregnancy.
Women eat more calories during pregnancy because of the idea that their babies will get more nutrients if they eat more.
And if a child has a healthy appetite, the more they breastfeed, the more you feel the need to eat more.
But do you need to eat large meals to sustain your breast milk production?
I found out that it is not true that you need to eat large meals or “eat for two” when you are pregnant. Focus your effort on eating healthy meals but not in large portions.
You need to be well hydrated to encourage breast milk supply. Your meals should include foods that are rich in water, such as fruits and vegetables. A normal healthy, balanced diet rich in fruits, veggies, and whole grains would do fine.
Rest is also very important when you are nursing to encourage the letdown of breast milk in the early days. So if you can, get a lot of rest. Arrange to get your mum or close relative in to help you out so that you can have more time for resting and nursing your baby.
Habits that will help Your Body To Snapback After Pregnancy.
Breastfeeding helps to burn calories. If there are no medical reasons why you should not breastfeed your baby, then you should consider it. Breastfeeding will help your uterus go back to its size before pregnancy. This is because the hormones that let down your milk make your uterus contract.
